Meet Meheret Dedu, a dedicated 9th-grade student at Medhane-Alem School and the first child in her family. She was at the top of her class, scoring the highest grade in the 8th-grade national exam in 2022.

“I want to be a surgeon so I can help people in my community and in other parts of Ethiopia. To be a good surgeon, I know I need to be brave and good at making quick decisions.”

Meheret's plans for the summer are to teach the community seniors how to read and write, just as she did last year during her summer break.

Meheret's aspiration to become a surgeon shows her desire to make a difference in people's lives.
